No! You do not need a degree to become a counsellor. However, the depth of knowledge gained from a degree cannot be disputed.
Those who have completed a degree will have gained an enviable amount of knowledge and information by doing so, but this would apply to any subject.
A degree can be advantage when seeking employment with some of the larger companies, such as the NHS for example if this is your aim. Do not underestimate the value holding a degree can bring but it is by no means compulsory to have studied at degree level to become a counsellor.
