As a learner looking to enter this field, you need to be aware, that there is no regulation for the counselling sector. So surprisingly, there are no official guidelines to follow or specific qualifications required.

Our guidance is given based on years of offering counselling courses and associated qualifications.

Initially, we would advise anyone looking to progress in this field to gain the core skills first of all. These skills once gained, can then be used across specific areas of counselling. For example: Grief, Drugs, Alcohol or Debt counselling to name a few.

Once you have the core skills, you are then able to bolt on the specific area of counselling that interests you personally.

We would recommend taking a look at the 2 courses below to gain these core skills. Both carry recognised qualifications.
